Les membres du centre de référence coordonnateur infections ostéo-articulaires complexes de Bordeaux participent à la recherche clinique et fondamentale. Dans le domaine des IOA, il existe de nombreuses inconnues concernant les techniques diagnostiques à utiliser, l'évaluation des matériaux chirurgicaux (implants, ciments), l'usage des anti-infectieux ainsi que les mécanismes biologiques impliqués lors de l'infection.

Le Crioac GSO participe à des essais cliniques et a publié un certain nombre d'articles scientifiques explorant ces questions. Les membres des centres de référence sont également engagés dans l'enseignement et la formation. Ceux-ci s'adressent à tous les acteurs prenant part à la prise en charge des patients : étudiants en médecine, internes, médecins généralistes et spécialistes et personnels paramédicaux.

Le Crioac GSO assure l'organisation d'une journée scientifique annuelle. C'est un lieu d'échanges pour tous les membres du Crioac GSO mais également avec les autres médecins qui exercent dans des établissements publics ou privés et qui sont intéressés par la prise en charge de patients atteints d'IOA. Les membres du Crioac GSO communiquent aussi régulièrement dans les congrès internationaux et les congrès nationaux organisés par leurs sociétés savantes respectives.

Les membres du Crioac GSO participent aux actions d'évaluation des pratiques professionnelles (EPP).
Celles-ci comportent notamment les réunions de morbidité-mortalité, la mise en place d'indicateurs comme la mesure annuelle de la satisfaction des patients et l'établissement et l'évaluation de protocoles de soins.

L'ENSEIGNEMENT

Les responsables des Centres de Référence ont créé un diplôme inter-universitaire national des infections ostéo-articulaires (DIU-IOA).
Le CRIOAC de Bordeaux participe à l'organisation de ce DIU qui à lieu tous les deux ans.
